This last weekend, we went on our first camping trip together. Last year, we kept saying how much we wanted to go camping together, just overnight, but it never happened. It was a blast! We had so much fun and cannot wait to go again!
Since Dexter learned to swim a few weeks ago on the Russian River, he has been all about the water. But his short little legs don't keep him up, so he gets tired very quickly. Dann went and bought him a doggie life vest and the problem was solved. When we first put it on him, he tried to get out of it, but when he went into the river on our camping trip and realized how it kept him afloat, he loved it. He had so much fun! And it was a lot of fun for me to watch. This means lots of time at the river this summer.
We set up camp and started a fire. It was a bit cold and windy on Saturday night, but we managed. We did the whole shebang. We grilled potatoes in foil on the campfire and made s'mores. It was very mellow and relaxing. I went to bed about 10:30 and slept until 9.
We had a simple camp food dinner, and Sunday morning Dann made the most wonderful breakfast burritos. The were so good and the perfect way to start a day. We packed up camp and headed home.
We drove through the Redwood Tree in Legget on our way home, and made one more pit stop at Lake Mendocino so Dex could swim a little more. Once home, we unpacked the car, took showers and cleaned all of the smoke scented stuff we had taken with us.
All in all, it was great weekend trip!
Camping sounds good. I havent done that in a while. I've never seen dogs with vests so I guess it must be pretty cute :)
